Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the program?

When evaluating a treatment program, it’s essential to ask specific questions. Will the entire duration be at an inpatient level, or will there be a shift to outpatient care? For example, some programs advertise a 90-day treatment plan, but this often includes only 28 days of inpatient care, with the remaining time at an outpatient level that offers just 3 hours of therapy per day. Clarify if the program promises 28 days or more of inpatient care, and ask if they will put this commitment in writing. Additionally, inquire about any potential extra costs that may not be included in the initial price.

What is the full time therapist to patient ratio and what are the credentials of those running groups?

Many centers will have one therapist with a case load of 25 or more clients, as opposed to our one therapist to 4 clients. Also, with caseloads like that, they generally won’t be running groups. Most centers will have behavioral techs that run group therapy sessions; here at The Beachcomber, all groups are run by a certified addiction counselor.

Are meals provided or do the clients have to go grocery shopping?

Inpatient Residential Treatment is an intense program. It is in the best interest of the patient to not have to worry about what they are making for dinner, but instead focus on their recovery. The Beachcomber has a professional chef who prepares and serves delicious family-style meals 7 days per week.

What Clothes Should I Bring While In Treatment?

It’s important to adhere to the dress code during your rehab stay. You won’t want to pack too much, as space may be limited in your room. You will likely have access to a washer and dryer, so bringing a week’s worth of clothes will probably be plenty. Make sure you have clothes that allow you to dress in layers in case you get too warm.

  • T-shirts and sweaters that comply with the dress code
  • Pants, jeans, or leggings
  • Undergarments, such as socks, bras, underwear, or boxers
  • “Dressy” outfits for any special nights
  • Shoes- bring comfortable tennis shoes and flip-flops to wear in the shower
  • Pajamas, slippers, and a bath robe
  • Coat or jacket

Is the treatment and housing all located on one campus?

Some inpatient programs go by what’s called the “Florida Model”, a model that was started well after The Beachcomber was established. The “Florida Model” will have the treatment on one facility and the housing on another, clients are then bused back and forth each day for treatment.

At The Beachcomber, your treatment and housing are located on one property, which is a short walk away from a private beach.

Can I take a tour of the facility and the housing?

If you’re in the area, taking a tour is a great idea. Many Florida treatment centers have pictures of the ocean but are actually located couple miles off the ocean. The Beachcomber is a very short walk away from a private beach. If you aren’t in the area and don’t have anyone able to go in your place, look us up on Google Maps where you can get a view of the treatment center.

What Items Are Not Allowed Into Treatment?

Certain belongings are restricted in order to ensure the safety of the patients. The following items are typically banned.

  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Narcotics and prohibited prescriptions
  • Unapproved OTC medications
  • Guns, knives, and sharp objects
  • Scissors
  • Food and drink
  • Pornography
  • Clothes that reference alcohol, drugs, or violence
  • Electronics, such as televisions, gaming consoles, and games
  • Revealing clothing
  • Nail polish and nail polish remover
  • Any toiletries that could contain alcohol, such as
  • perfume or mouthwash
  • DVDs or video games
  • Candles
  • Incense or essential oils

What Items Should I Bring While In Treatment?

While each rehab will have different policies in place, most will recommend bringing in the following items from home:

  • Any current prescription medications that you take on a regular basis. The medication must be in the original bottle from the pharmacy with intact labels.
  • The names and phone numbers of anyone you wish to be involved in your treatment plan.
  • Some cash for vending machines.
  • Calling cards for any long distance calls you might make, as well as envelopes and stamps for writing letters.
  • Pictures of loved ones to keep in your room.

“I went to the Beachcomber feeling empty. I wasn’t really wanting to but everyone told me I needed to. I was told in June 2012 that the counselors were in recovery, and they believed in God. When I heard GOD I went. I felt like it was a calling. At first when I got there I felt very uncomfortable and in seconds the lady at the desk made me laugh and suddenly I didn’t feel so bad. My favorite counselor was Trey. He was very strong and firm and a BIG Believer in God. The others were extremely nice also. Since feeling so at ease I felt completely comfortable and I opened up and shared. Not being judged but rather supported I felt free. So I thank the staff you will always have a place in my heart.”

-Sebastian Christian

“Beachcomber is an excellent facility. It was the one and last place that my Son successfully sought treatment. The staff was firm but very caring. They always took my phone calls and I had weekly updates with their now Clinical Director Genna. She has kept in touch with all of to this day, and we celebrate my Son’s sober date together each year, as I truly believe she was most instrumental in his recovery. Addiction treatment is a difficult industry and I have the utmost respect for those who work in it. Beachcomber has been around for a very long time and that’s due to its immense success rate.”

-Cynthia Aragona

“A welcoming and warm environment in which all employees deeply care about the well being of those who walk through the doors. Director Jenna was professional, intelligent, and sought to provide the best for all patients. Would hands down recommend to anyone seeking a treatment facility.”

-Darcey Mulligan

“I was in desperate need for my loved one. She was so broken and without hope upon arrival. It took 2 minutes to change her feelings from hopelessness to hopeful and forward thinking and a sense of safety. They created an empathetic, loving, welcoming environment. The therapy is intense and professional according to her. I am so grateful to Beach Combers and it’s caring staff for helping her and putting her on a strong path of recovery. Thank you a million times overs. ”
