Detox, short for detoxification, is only the first step in the addiction treatment process. Most people, due to the length and severity of use, develop a physical and psychological dependency on their drug of choice (including alcohol). When abruptly discontinued the individual may begin to experience withdrawal symptoms. These initial withdrawal symptoms may include sweats, cramping and anxiety or can be as medically complex as seizures or convulsions. The risks associated with suddenly discontinuing use are too great to be done without medical supervision. Click here to read more about Detox

Acupuncture points are points that have been designated to have electrical sensitivity. Inserting needles at these points stimulates sensory receptors and stimulate nerves that transmit impulses to the hypothalamus and pituitary glands located at the base of the brain. The hypothalamus and pituitary glands are responsible for releasing neurotransmitters and endorphins which are the body’s natural pain killing hormones. Click here to read more about Acupuncture

It has been shown that yoga and meditation can help relieve anxiety. Addicts will react with extreme behaviors due to pent up emotions, anger, self-loathing, shame, anxiety trauma or other negative emotions. An addict will engage in these destructive behaviors as they do not know how to handle these emotions appropriately. Yoga can teach an addict how to relax and control their emotions. Yoga can help an addict learn self control, help their self confidence and improve their physical health. The combination of postures breathing and meditation helps to aid the recovering addict in dealing with the stresses of recovery. Click here to read more about yoga and addiction treatment
