This time of year is a special time of year on the beach adjacent to the BEACHCOMBER. It is sea turtle nesting season which brings the large female sea turtles to the beach to lay their eggs. Three species of sea turtles all off of which are on the threatened or endangered list lay their eggs on the beach here.
The three species of sea turtles that can be seen on the beach just steps from the BEACHCOMBER are the Leatherback, Green Sea Turtle and the Loggerhead turtle. The female sea turtles come out on the beach late at night to lay their eggs. Last night Wednesday, June 15, 2011 was a special night as our director saw 9 sea turtles laying their eggs on the beach.
The special qualities of the ocean and beach here in Delray Beach are why our founder located the BEACHCOMBER here 35 years ago. The first few days and weeks of recovery from addiction do drugs and alcohol are very stressful. We believe a tranquil and beautiful environment increases the chances for recovery from this terrible disease.
